Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera plants from the Asphodelaceae family. This genus of about 200 species is known for its succulent leaves, perfect for withstanding the harsh desert environment. Contrary to popular belief, Aloe Vera is often mistakenly referred to as "American aloe," when it is actually a member of the Asphodelaceae family and not closely related to the agave Americana. The gel from the leaves of this plant is used as a tonic, purgative, emmenagogue, and anthelminitic, and is generally extracted using water as a solvent.
